You probably have heard the term thrown around, but many out there might not know what an Accelerometer does exactly. They are used in a variety of modern machines and gadgets, and a necessity for dynamic balancing in walking robots. What I’d really like is to be able to use accelerometers or gyro as a replacement for wheel odometry. I experimented with the Phidget 3 axis accelerometer, but couldn’t get it to measure speed of movement very accurately (you need to cancel out the gravity vector, and deal with all the noise).
