Dean Kamen and the Robotic Arm
Ok, we’ve seen some pretty incredible advancements in robotics these last couple of years, but this tops the cake! The articulation from this arm is amazing. It looks like something straight out of the Cyberdyne lab in the Terminator series.

If the short clip at the end of this video is in fact genuine, and not some kind of fake (you can do a lot of clever stuff with video now), then it is a remarkable advance in prosthetics. Being able to pick up a bottle and tilt it towards your mouth is typically something that most prosthetic arms can’t do very well.
People can’t lie in a video bob, we just don’t have the tech for that right now:)
Seriously though, if this is real, it is a truly revolutionary step for robotics!
Well manipulation of photographic images has a long history, and this is now also extending into video. I’ve seen augmented reality demos which looks very convincing. As every year goes by it’s becoming increasingly easy to combine live video with computer generated 3D content.
Just got word from some people that we know in FIRST that this is in fact legit. Dean (who founded the FIRST Robotic Competitions and invented the Segway) had been working on this arm for quite some time now.
