News Release January 2, 2007, 2:15 ET.

Logic Supply, a leading embedded hardware solutions specialist, announced today the release of the revolutionary SolidLogic GS-L05 fanless Mini-ITX computer system.  Measuring only 7.4 x 7.2 x 3 (L x W x H), this system can be configured to be completely solid state. A wide range of Intel and VIA based Mini-ITX form factor mainboards help to set the new standard for size, performance and flexibility.

“From its inception, the Mini-ITX standard has offered hardware engineers and Linux developers a modular and cost effective alternative to traditional embedded solutions, said Roland Groeneveld, President of Logic Supply. “With the arrival of the GS-L05, Mini-ITX systems have taken a huge leap forward.  Engineers can choose a board with the functionality, performance and speed they require and marry it with this case to create a highly compact, fanless solution that is ideal for a range of embedded and industrial applications.

The GS-L05 system utilizes heat pipe / heat sink technology for passive cooling that eliminates reliability concerns that fanned cases can present when used in harsh, demanding or remote environments. Rugged steal and heat-dissipating aluminum create a tough, protective enclosure with black-box looks, mounting brackets, and set-it-and-forget-it reliability. The system also offers a price/performance advantage over other form factors tailored for embedded applications.

Small industrialized PCs have been around for a long time, and have been consistently falling in price. I remember using this kind of biscuit tin sized PC for the first time in the late 1990s. In those days they were very specialized and expensive, typically costing $4000 or more.
